Samstag, 31.03.2018 – 20:00 Uhr: „Smoothies – Irish and international Songs”

Smoothies. “Songs you didn’t know you knew.”

Smoothies are:

Alan Sherry, (Waterford, Irland) –Vocals, Guitar
Thomas Shilling, (Frankfurt) – Contrabass
Danny Kelly, (Hills of Donegal) – Bouzouki Guitar Vocals.

Smoothies play a mix of Irish Songs and international songs which have been covered by Irish singers at some point in time. This mix of songs from Ireland and America and elsewhere makes their repertoire interesting for the audience to listen to.

Thomas and Alan have played together in a band called The Shebeen Connection for many years. Alan and Danny started playing as Smoothies once a month a few years ago and were later joined by Thomas on the double bass. Since then the material they play has expanded and developed.

The cement that binds this group together is Alan Sherry’s “Voice of Steel”. Born with a powerful voice Alan has built up a fan club of his own in the Rhein Main area. His choice of songs is unusual and it takes us away from the normal cover songs that can often be heard.

Thomas Shilling is a seasoned double bass player in the Frankfurt jazz scene and has played with nearly every jazz musician in town. He also has a background in the blues scene from his youthful years. Danny Kelly comes from the traditional Irish music background and singer songwriter scene. Because all three of them are from different musical directions, it makes for an unusual and interesting blend.
